Welcome to my media routine! Each day looks a little different, and I try to limit my media use as much as possible. Below I will place a general outline representing my media usage during my weekend:
11am: I wake up, make breakfast, and check my emails and messages as I eat.
12pm: After I finish eating, I will begin my morning prayer routine. Depending on the day, I will occasionally use an app called “Hallow,” which includes various forms of guided catholic prayer and music. I highly recommend Hallow if find yourself struggling in prayer.
12:30pm: I finish prayer, and I begin to briefly scroll on Instagram and YouTube to see what the world wants to currently report. After that I’ll get ready for my day, and begin logging into my computer to complete any assignments for the day. My assignments might include me using various kinds of media depending on the assignment. For example, having access to a website developer helps me complete assignments that involve me creating a blog like this one.
1:30pm: I’m either done with my assignment, or its time to take a break. During these breaks or transition periods, I’ll sit down and scroll on Instagram a little more until my 15 minute time is up. Once that timer is up, I cannot use Instagram again until the next day. The 15 minute timer is a useful tool because whenever I’m on Instagram for too long, I tend to feel icky, and it’s likely that I haven’t learned any information that was credible.
2:30pm: If I’m done with my assignments for the day, I’ll begin my workout. If I decide to workout at home, I like to use an app owned by Nike that has various workout programs. If I go to the gym, I’ll use the Gymshark Training app to organize and plan my own workouts. Along with that, I’ll use either Spotify or Pandora to listen to music.
4pm: After working out, I’ll go food shopping at either Fry’s or Sprouts depending on if I need meal prep ingredients, or just some snacks.
5:30pm-8:30pm: It’s dinner time. My typical dinner involves chickpea pasta with vodka sauce and lots of parmesan. Typically with dinner, I’ll either watch a show on Amazon prime, or I’d listen to a podcast on YouTube.
9pm-11pm: It’s bedtime. I will typically try to find a couple more YouTube videos to entertain me before I close my eyes. Then I will go back onto Hallow, my catholic meditation app to complete my nightly prayer routine. Then finally, I close my eyes.
As you can see, most of us spend quite a bit of time using media. Whenever I need valid research about a topic, I tend to search websites like The New York Times, and BBC News. That is because I find that their content hardly contains any bias, which is important to look for when trying to find a credible news source.
